Salt Lake City Day Trip Guide
Staying in Rush Valley doesn't mean skipping the city — Salt Lake City is close enough for an easy day trip, and far enough that you'll appreciate coming home to the quiet.
What to Do
- Natural History Museum of Utah, set into the foothills with panoramic city views alongside its exhibits — a great stop for families.
- Temple Square, downtown's free, most-visited attraction (see our dedicated guide for details).
- This Is the Place Heritage Park, a living-history village telling the story of Utah's early settlers.
- Antelope Island State Park, out in the Great Salt Lake itself, home to free-roaming bison, pronghorn, and bighorn sheep, plus Bridger Bay Beach.
- Liberty Park and Sugar House, good options for a relaxed afternoon of food and green space away from downtown.
Tips for the Day
- Traffic on I-15 through Salt Lake can back up during rush hour (roughly 7–9 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.) — time your drive around it if you can.
- Antelope Island has its own entrance fee and is a bit of a detour north; plan it as its own half-day if you want to do it justice.
- Salt Lake City sits at a noticeably lower, hotter elevation in summer than Rush Valley — dress accordingly.
- The city and Temple Square are both walkable once you're downtown, so park once and explore on foot.
How Far Is It From Clover Creek Guest House
About 55 miles from Rush Valley — around an hour's drive over the Oquirrh Mountains via UT-36 and I-80.
Why Stay at Clover Creek
A hotel downtown puts you in the middle of city noise and parking fees. Clover Creek Guest House lets you have it both ways — a full day in Salt Lake City, then an hour's drive back to a quiet farmhouse cottage with a full kitchen, room for the whole group, and stars you can actually see.
